MEDIA RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - OCTOBER 10, 2005
Young Professionals for Charity (YP4C) are excited to announce that their first event, the inaugural YP4C Globall held on October 1 at the Melbourne Aquarium, has raised a record-breaking $80,000.
The $80,000 is being shared by the Asylum Seeker Resource Center, beyondblue: the national depression initiative, Child Wise and Oxfam Australia.
"Quite simply, we're rapt.” said Ally Akbarzadeh, YP4C's Vice President. "We set out in April to throw a little party for some friends and hopefully raise $50,000 for charity. To exceed that amount by $30,000 is simply staggering.
"The enthusiasm shown by over 1,500 Melbournians with both party-shoes and a conscience resulted in a sold out night of live music, great friends and a positive vibe. And the support of our generous sponsors meant that over half of every ticket went to our partner charities,” he said.
Profits from the event will be donated to the four partner charities during a presentation ceremony later this year.
The $80,000 will be put towards a range of programs tackling issues such as child prostitution, poverty, mental health and refugee support.
Young Professionals for Charity (YP4C, www.yp4c.org.au) is a new non-profit organisation founded in 2005 by a group of 50 young professionals who decided to turn the goodwill and admirable intentions of their peers into direct financial and volunteer support for Melbourne-based charities.
